Vacation Skin Care: What to Pack

Summer is well known as a season for travel and vacations, which can make it a very exciting and fun season indeed. Traveling can allow you to experience new and exciting things, have lots of fun, and act as a probably much needed getaway to relax and enjoy yourself. That said, when caring for your skin is a big priority (as it well should be!), and when bag space is limited (as it always is when traveling) you may be hard-pressed when it comes time to pack. What skin care products should you take? What should you leave behind? Making these decisions can be an arduous affair. Just remember: for every item you bring, there’s less space for other things, like makeup, clothes, and fun things to pass the time. As such, Vine Vera decided it was high time to provide a helpful list of tips for packing skin care when it comes time for your next exciting vacation.

Seal it Up Tight!
This goes not only for skin care, but for makeup, mouthwash, and anything else that’s a liquid or cream in a bottle. It’s important to make sure that your favorite outfit, laptop, book, or something else doesn’t get covered in damaging liquids or creams. Not only will you ruin other things in your suitcase and get your hands sticky sorting through that mess, you’ll waste valuable skin care product too!

To prevent this, seal up the top of every bottle with scotch tape, and toss the tape in your suitcase too so that you can reseal everything before heading home. Then, get a few ziploc bags and put a few products in each bag. This way, it’s unlikely any of them will spill, and even if they do, they’ll only spill on other product bottles, not on your whole suitcase.

Bring Small Quantities
Think realistically about how much of each product you actually need. If you only use a small dab of cleanser every day, then on a two-week trip, do you really need to pack an entire jumbo size bottle that typically lasts you months? A lot of products are available in convenient travel sizes, and even if they’re not (or if you just don’t want to buy more of a product you already have) you can use tiny Tupperware containers or little bottles from the dollar store.

Just the Essentials
You’ll want to pack a daily moisturizer, a facial wash and something to clean off makeup at the end of the day, and a body lotion. And that’s it! That may not seem like a lot, but believe us, when you need to travel light, you can survive without all the other products and tools for a short while. If it’s a very long vacation (like at least a month) you can add an exfoliant and masks to that list, but otherwise, don’t bother. Your skin will be okay if you go without some things for a bit, and you’ll be back home soon enough!
