Lifestyle Choices Of Timeless Beauties

vine vera banner presents Lifestyle Choices Of Timeless Beauties

There she is, you think, her skin is flawless, her hair: perfect, her figure: toned, heck, you don’t even see a chip in her nail polish. And then it comes, the inevitable question: What is she doing that I’m not? How does she achieve that effortless cool while you struggle to keep your stockings from running? Well, you asked, we answered. Here are some of the lifestyle choices of timeless beauties that you may want to start making yourself.

Not Using Heat On Your Hair
If you want your hair to bounce with youth, the flat iron and hair dryer are not going to do the trick. Francesa Fusco MD, says she’s, “seeing lots of damage and breakage from women using multiple heat styling tools.” Instead, she advises declaring heat free days two days a week, opting for a wet bum, air drying, or dry shampooing.

Using Hand Lotion
Because the skin on the backs of your hands is so thin, it tends to age faster than the rest of your body. Dr Fusco says using lotion with sunscreen, “will greatly reduce sun damage, which appears as brown spots and wrinkles.”

Applying SPF Daily
You must have guessed the timeless beauty is slathering on the SPF. According to a 2013 study, people who applied SPF formulas three to four days a week were less likely to show signs of aging skin than those who applied it less often. Rule of thumb according to the American Academy of Dermatology is a shot glass worth of SPF-30 every day.

Avoiding Foods That Stain Teeth
Oh, how we love to eat and drink them, but when it comes to what they do to our teeth, it’s another story. Dentist Emanuel Layliev says dark, hot, sticky condiments like soy or barbecue sauce are the worst when it comes to staining teeth, followed not far behind by coffee, red wine, and soda. He advises swapping dark sauces with mango salsa or fresh herbs, and foregoing dark soda for seltzer.

Painting Your Nails
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, old looking hands can betray your age more easily than your face can. Distract from less than youthful hands by wearing jewelry and nail polish. “Jewel tones are the best bets for anti-aging,” advises manicurist Lynette Renee, who recommends rich reds and purples to clients seeking more youthful looking hands.

woman exercising

Exercising Regularly
It should be no surprise to hear that timeless beauties take in exercise on a regular basis. “Exercise Improves healthy circulation, which allows the skin to look its best,” Dr. Fusco explains. A firmer body always makes for a more youthful appearance, and a study from McMaster University in Canada showed that exercise may even reverse signs of aging in the skin. Make an effort to clock in 30 minutes of physical activity daily.

Reducing Sodium
Salty foods can cause you to retain water, and that can result in puffiness, especially beneath the eyes. Try to pinpoint the hidden sodium sources in your food; common culprits include cereal, condiments, sauces, deli meats, and baked goods.

Limiting Smartphone Use
You may have heard that bending your neck when scrolling through your smartphone can cause neck wrinkles. Hanging photos at eye level in the places you text the most may be a good reminder to keep your head up when you’re on your phone.

Let us know how you achieve timeless beauty. We want to know your secrets.

Candy Crush
With all the fireworks of summer, its always a great idea to glitter bomb your nails. Get those nails looking just as hot as the weather with some multi-color glitter nail polish. Finish the look with some eye catching rings on every finger top and bottom.

Cake Pop
Nails that look like ten cake pops! What could be better? This pink pastel color will look great against your skin and while making a super feminine statement that can complement your inner lady or provide a contrast to your tomboy side.

Floss Gloss
Summer nail polish doesn’t have to be bright. Try a neutral palm tree color. It will work like color correcting concealer to tone down summer weathered hands, and look great while doing it.

Electric Orange
Anything starting with the word electric has to be great for summer. Besides, since your not doing tans anymore, you need something to give you color. Orange is a great cheery summer color and will provide a great contrast to your more expected pinks and reds.

There will always be a place for classic red in every nail polish collection. No matter the season, red will always make a strong, sexy feminine statement. You can never go wrong with red.

Subtle Grey
Every once in a while, it is a good idea to take it down a notch. With all the summer colors heating things up, you may want to cool off with a nice subtle grey. Look for the color in matte finish to keep it fun and bright.

Sweet Almond
They say variety is the spice of life, and if you’re always looking to change things up, this may be the color for you. Sweet almond is somewhere between gray and lilac, but there is nothing boring or sleepy about this light purple. Definitely a color for the ages.

Makeup Tips To Keep You Selfie Ready

It used to be that you had to look your best because you never knew when a photo op would come up. You might be out at a nightclub, or a party, when suddenly someone with a camera would pop up looking to take your picture, so you had to ensure you were always photo-ready. Now, with the advent of the selfie, things have changed. These days, you never know when you might pop up wanting to take a picture of yourself. Just when you least expect it, there you’ll be with the selfie stick, ready to click away. That’s why you always need to be prepared for the occasion with the proper makeup. Here are some great expert selfie makeup tips.

Selfie Analysis
According to Courtney Rubin, author of “Makeup for the Selfie Generation,” “Most makeup companies have products that play with light, offering photo finishes or airbrush effects that claim to make wearers camera ready. But a handful of brands are beginning to design and tweak their wares to stand up to the specific challenges of phone photography–among them, that a flash can make foundation look white, or that in daylight selfies, cool colors can look warmer.

In preparation for his book, “#beautiful” makeup artist and lead makeup artist for “Project Runway,” Luis Casco analyzed about 8,000 selfies of 26 women of various ages and ethnicities to find the best makeup application for a good selfie.

Here are some tips from Mr. Casco

  1. Since dry flaky lips commonly plague selfies, Mr. casco suggests using a lip exfoliator before applying lip product.
  2. Mr. Casco also recommends mixing shades of eyeliner to create effects. He notes that a touch of purple can make brown eyes appear clearer and that a hint of gold “makes the eyes twinkle.”
  3. To get the most flattering shot, lift the camera to a 45-degree angle to sharpen the jaw line and make eyes look wider. Casco notes this is particularly helpful in avoiding a raccoon eye effect while wearing dark eye makeup. The trick is to bring the chin down and the camera up.
  4. To avoid pale skin in the daylight, Mr. Casco recommends products that contour the face without looking caked on. He suggests CC creams that blend easily and are not obviously pigmented for a natural healthy radiance.
  5. When taking a selfie at night with a flash, a real life shimmer can translate to oily skin on camera. Casco suggests a translucent powder to make skin feel soft and extra blotting sheets to absorb oil, particularly in the T-zone.

Selfie Ready Foundations
Another way of avoiding the oily sheen associated with selfies is by choosing a mattifying foundation with oil absorbing features.

Stand Out Eyes
When it comes to eyes, the best thing to do is to keep it basic. While bold and theatrical looks can be great, they often don’t photograph well without proper lighting. For photo ready eyes, prime with black mascara, nude shadow, and a bit of a cat eye.

Whiter Teeth
For a quick tooth whitener, munching on some raw veggies can actually help remove stains from teeth. If your looking for a cosmetic solution, stained teeth can be concealed by wearing a bright lip color with blue undertones.

Bold Lips
If your selfies are looking washed out, it may be time to turn up your lipstick a few shades. Look for high-pigment formulas which tend to last longer than other shades and be sure to take your skin tone into account when choosing a color.

Fashion and Style For The Full Figured Woman

If the average US women is 162.9 pounds, and wears a size 14, how did fashion brands and retailers ever get the idea that anyone over a size 10 could not be fashionable? Flemish Painter Peter Paul Rubens would have been horrified with the dimensions of the average runway model and the Venus de Milo would probably have been rejected by standard modeling agencies.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was certainly not waif -like, and Superwoman Lynda Carter was never shy about her curves. Rock and roll’s Queen sang the praises of the “Fat Bottomed Girls” in the 1970’s and even U2 had to admit that “Big Girls Are Best.”

So, why should it be that fuller figures are not accepted in the fashion world? Well, if Full Figured Fashion Week is anything to go by, things are changing. Here’s some expert style and fashion advice for the full figured woman.

Work To Play
According to Lawrence Zarian, a.k.a. the Fashion Guy, a white tailored French cuff shirt and a brick red sweater duster are must haves for every day fashion. These pieces can be worn separately, or paired with neutral colored boot cut slacks and a thick belt for waist line definition.

Jacket

The Icon Collection
Inspired by the runways of Fashion Week Milan, Paris, and London, the Icon Collection offers sophisticated women more savvy fashion choices. Try some black harem waist pants with a grey off the shoulder top for a touch of elegance; pair with a riding coat and signature jewelry pieces. Zarian ensures that harem pants can be a great look for fuller figured women, as long as it is balanced with a full cut top. The riding coat will lend the illusion of a sleek silhouette. See Jennifer Hudson modeling her new harem pants for inspiration!

Mad Women
Although the finale is behind us, the influence of the TV show “Mad Men” is still very much alive. The character of Joan Holloway, portrayed by Christina Hendricks, combines curvy with vintage in the hit show, putting the pencil skirt and skinny belt back on the list of “must have” items.

Pair your classic tweed pencil skirt with an electric blue light weight sweater; something with a ribbed waistline can be very flattering. Top with a leather jacket for a modern twist on this 60’s look and grab a croc bag to complete it.

Beyond the Workplace
If you’ve got a dinner date planned after your nine to five shirt is over, it doesn’t necessarily mean you need to go home and change. You can wear your turtle green key-hole neck dress with your faux leather belt topped by a cardigan for a chic workplace look, and strip off the cardigan and belt before dinner. Grab your croc bag and you’re good to go.

LBD
No female wardrobe should be without the little black dress, regardless of size.

LBD

A black drape front dress is a great sexy look, and don’t forget to show off those shoulders. As for jewelry, Zarian says, “The hottest trend right now is to double up on your cuffs and bump it with bohemian pieces.” He recommends a back smoothing bra for a smooth, shapely look.

Unisex Skincare Products That Work

Should couples share everything? Gwen Stefani seemed to think so. The lyrics to the No Doubt song, “Bathwater,” feature the blond vixen claiming to “love to wash in (her man’s) old bathwater” and even makes references to “sharing a toothbrush.” Sure, we’ve heard of girls to throwing on their man’s jackets, undershirts, colognes, and watches, and we’ve seen guys borrowing the occasional nail polish and eyeliner, but how about when it comes to personal hygiene? Although there has yet to be recommended the use of the communal toothbrush, there are some products that work well for both sexes. So in the name of equality, let’s explore a few.

Serum
While serum should always have antioxidants and corrective properties tailored to your skin, there are some hydrating formulas which can soothe the skin for you after cleansing, while doing the same for him after shaving. Ideal formulas have no scent and work for all skin types, but remember, no hogging!

Couple cleansing together

Cleanser
Perhaps the biggest difference between men’s and women’s skincare routines is the cleansing part. Women cleanse religiously, while men seem to be more sporadic about it. However, despite the regularity, or lack thereof, one thing is for sure. Both sexes need a cleanser that removes debris, dirt and oil.

Everyday Moisturizer
If you and your man tend toward oily skin, you probably want to pool your earnings into a large tub of a lightweight moisturizer with antioxidants, botanicals, and minerals to reduce shine and balance skin. Also, keep in mind that he may be more comfortable using something in a gender neutral package, so try to keep the frills to a minimum.

Scent Free Shower Cleanser
Use this while showering together or separately. Look for something creamy and Ph balanced to smooth skin while it cleanses. Again, scent-free is recommended for sharing; nothing with too much perfume or cologne.

Couple using skincare together

Face Mask
While the image of a woman in a face mask has been fodder for American sitcoms for generations, men are now equally entitled to this skin clearing vehicle. Share a clay mask to open clogged pores and soak up sebum with a natural buffer to slough off dead skin cells.

Lightweight Sunscreen
His skin may be thicker than yours, but that doesn’t mean it’s not susceptible to sun damage. A non-greasy, lightweight, untinted sunscreen will work for both of you, so look for something with broad spectrum protection and an SPF of 30 or above. Be sure that both of you cover face as well as neck.

Lip Balm
You owe it to each other to keep your lips equally kissable. Find a colorless, weightless balm with added UV protection and keep reapplying throughout the day.

Do you share hygienic products with your better half? What do you think? Are there benefits to sharing? Let us know!

Layering Tips From The Runway

Layered clothing has had quite a history. Following the premiere of the movie “Flashdance” in 1983, the amount of clothing one woman wore in the course of the day seemed to multiply exponentially. A simple outfit might consist of a tank top with a shoulder- baring sweatshirt over it, tight pants with leg warmers, belts, headbands and layers of bracelets. There were also super baggy pants, rolled up to feature turned down high-top sneakers with striped socks peeking ours. Madonna layered her leather jackets over her miniskirts, under her famous, “Boy Toy” belt. Bananarama wore famously baggy overalls over their wifebeater tanks.

The 90’s brought its own take on layering with the emergence of grunge. Flannels were worn over shirts or tied around the waist. Leggings peeked out from under ripped jeans. Indeed, to this day, layering doesn’t appear to be going anywhere quickly.

What is behind the longevity of our love affair with layers? Layered clothing has many benefits. It is the best way to keep warm in cold weather and allows people to shed or add layers to adjust to the temperature. It lets us get maximum wear from our clothes, it allows for creativity and self-expression, and it can hide a multitude of sins. If you are contemplating adding a scarf or blazer to your wardrobe, here are a few things you may want to take into consideration.

Bottom Layering
Why not try skirts over pants or leggings? Try wrapping a dress over your trousers. The look can be work appropriate or rock festival ready.

skirt

Switch up Your seasons
Break the rules! Part of the layering trend includes combing skimpy clothes with clothes for the chillier weather. Consider putting a floral mini over long sleeves or put a dress shirt on your little black dress. Boho to practical, layering redefines the wardrobe and lets you get your money’s worth from your clothing purchases.

Wear Something Sheer
Have you ever seen something in a store that is absolute to die for, but you can’t imagine how you might wear it appropriately in public? Try wearing something over it. Sheer lace blouses can look great under a strappy dress or blazer, as can a sheer skirt over fitted pants.

Combine Textures
Create an interesting look by throwing a silk evening shirt over a cotton turtleneck. Contrasting fabrics can complement one another and give them a new definition.

heels

Wear Heels
If there are any reasons to avoid layering, one would be that if we over -layer, we run the risk of getting lost in our clothes, especially if we are on the short side. How do we fix this? A pair of heels will lift your body from the bundle of indistinguishable clothing and transform you into a put together fashion statement. Just beware not to trip over some of the lower layers. BTW, the optimal ration for clothing top to bottom is 70:30.

Belt It
Feeling lost in all these clothes? Remind people you have a waist. You can still look svelte and sexy in your layers by cinching them with a belt. Consider belting jackets, shirts and trousers kimono style to show off your hourglass figure.

Experiment with your clothes! It will be a wardrobe overhaul and let us know if you have any interesting ideas about layering and what works and what doesn’t.
