Airlines With the Best Fashion Sense

Airhostess chasing airplane

The Cabin Crew. Even when you are most disheveled after a red-eye flight, you can count on the cabin crew to look immaculate. No matter how long and turbulent the flight, the traveler can take comfort in a smiling face, in a perfectly pressed suit, ready to deliver a fresh damp cloth or lunch tray. And perhaps, with all the headlines the airlines are making lately, it is well advised that the cabin crew be ready for an unexpected photo or a You-Tube appearance. If the landing strip is the new runway, it is important that the airlines stack up. Here are some of the airlines with the best fashion sense.

Emirates Airlines
Emirates is one example of an airline that knows the importance of a good looking crew. According to flight attendant Maria Pederson, one of the ethnically diverse crew members, “People are really impressed by the way we look. I think it makes us stand out, look professional and well put together.” Flight prep time for this group usually takes about an hour, and little wonder, as there are guidelines for the exact hat position (two fingers width above the eyebrows), the folding and tucking of the scarf, the signature red lipstick, and the grooming (hair cannot touch the shoulders). In addition, flight attendants are restricted from wearing uniforms while off duty, a big Emirates no-no.

Singapore Airlines
The signature “Singapore Girl” uniform has barely been altered in the over 40 years of its existence. After all, what reason would there be for changing something so stylish, iconic, and instantly recognizable? The original, designed by French couture designer Pierre Balmain in 1968, is a take on the “Sarong Kebaya,” featuring the timeless colors and prints of traditional Singapore women’s wear, and a feast of pattern and colors in the friendly skies/

Air Canada Rouge
For a discount airline, these guys have cool uniforms! Check out their tight burgundy tees and gray belted slacks with the knotted print neck scarves. Sort of like “Grease” meets hipster. They also get to wear John Fluevog on their feet. Talk about low budget meets high fashion.

Thai Airways
Always stylish, always elegant, Thai Airlines uniforms give the passenger a taste of Thailand as soon as they board. While flight attendants wear the corporate purple outfits outside the plane, they change into the traditional Thai dress for the flight portion. Pardon us while we change into something a bit more comfortable? While beautiful and colorful in both versions, the passengers are in for an extra treat that may be well worth the price of the flight.

Aeroflot
Although Russia is not always synonymous with fashion, the crisp red caps and angled neckties of the Aeroflot stewardesses may turn that around. Earning a top rating as the world’s most stylish airline from the Skyscanner flight booking website, the Aeroflot cabin crew may be the start of a fashion revolution.

Qantas
Even Miranda Kerr couldn’t resist a chance to model the Quantas collection on the runway. The new design is a study in traditional Quantas ruby red, fuschia, and French navy created by Australian designer Martin Grant. But the absolute must have in this collection? Check out the new Quantas trench coat! You’ll be signing up for the job tomorrow!

Look Hot When You Enter A Room

Woman walking

Everyone wants to make a grand entrance; to be able to command attention as soon as you walk into the room. How do you do it? Pause briefly before entering, make eye contact, look as if you’re happy to be there, try not to fall, or recover gracefully if you do: all great ways of using body language. But while the importance of great body language cannot be underestimated, you don’t really need it if you already have a great body. You can shape up with squats to make a grand entrance effortlessly. Here are a few squat exercise routines you can do to turn some heads when you walk in a room.

The Basic Squat
Squats are one of the best exercises for the lower body. They target all the major lower body muscles, including the glutes, hips, and thighs. The basic squat is good for beginners or those who are overweight, or suffering from knee problems.

  1. Stand in front of a chair with feet shoulder width apart.
  2. Contract abs, keeping them tight while you bend your knees and squat in the direction of the chair.
  3. Move hips back, keeping head up and torso straight. Extend arms if you need help balancing.
  4. Sit on the chair and contract the glutes to lift out of the chair and begin to extend your legs.
  5. Extend your legs fully until your back to a standing position without locking your knees.
  6. Repeat for 1 to 3 set of 10 to 16 reps.

Wide squat

Plie Or Wide Squat
This squat incorporates a little more inner thigh action and helps target leg muscles in different ways.

  1. Start in a wide stance with toes pointed outward at a comfortable angle. Align your knees with your toes, so they don’t go out too far.
  2. You may want to hold two dumbbells on your upper thighs or a singles dumbbells in front. on the shoulders, or behind the head.
  3. Bend your knees and lower down into a squat, keeping your knees in line with your toes, and your abs tight.
  4. Push back to beginning stance without locking knees.
  5. Do 1 to 3 sets of 10 to 16 repetitions.

Barbell squat

Barbell Squats
These are more intense types of squats which add weight to your shoulders and require more work form the gluteus.

  1. Stand with feet shoulder width apart.
  2. Hold the barbell just above your shoulders on the “meaty part,” or the trapezius muscles. Use a bar pad to protect your back if you are uncomfortable.
  3. Bend knees, lowering into a squat until your knees are at ninety degree angles.
  4. Contract glutes and legs, keeping your body stabilized with your torso tight.
  5. Stand back up slowly without locking your knees. Do 1 to 3 sets of 10 to 16 reps.

Wall Sits
Wall sits are a great exercise you can do without any equipment. They require you to hold a static position rather than working through a range of motion.

  1. Stand about 2 feet in front of a wall and lean against it.
  2. Slide down and walk feet out until your knees are close to 90 agree angles and hold with abs contracted for 20 to 60 seconds.
  3. Return to starting position and repeat varying angles of squats to work the body in different ways.

One Legged Squat
This is an advanced exercise challenging your balance and stability. This version incorporates the use of an exercise ball to add more of a challenge.

  1. Put an exercise ball behind your lower back and lean against it.
  2. Lift your left foot slightly off the ground moving your right foot toward the middle to maintain balance.
  3. Contract the muscles in your right leg, keeping the left leg lifted, lower into a squat, resting your hands on the wall if you need extra balance.
  4. Return to starting position, repeating all reps on the right leg before switching to your left.

Tips For Safe Squatting
Keep your weight over your ankles and your heels not the floor throughout the movement. Knees should always remain in line with your toes. Send the hips back, not the knees forward. Keep shoulders back, maintain a natural arch in your lower back and keep the neck and head in a neutral position.

Are you squatting to improve your hotness? What are you doing to make heads turn? Let us know!

Travel Outfits For New Moms

You love everything about being a new mom, but you have to admit, since the baby arrived, it’s given a new meaning to the word luggage. In fact, you’re pretty sure that your diaper bag alone would probably qualify as “over-sized” by most airline standards, and that’s the one without the built-in changing station. And now you have to travel. Your relatives are dying to meet your newest addition and your dying show off your latest accomplishment. But the last thing you want is more to pack, and comfort is a top priority. Here are some simple travel outfits to keep things easy and fashionable.

Post Pregnancy Clothes
You don’t want to spend a ton of money on clothing you won’t wear for very long, but you need comfy and cute items to accommodate your figure and make nursing easy.

Leggings
Two of the best outfits for new moms are leggings with a loose, long top, and elastic waist jeans with a peplum shirt. Since your main concern right now is probably your middle, look for a top that will cover the hips with a thin fabric to avoid adding bulk. Horizontal stripes will add width, and should be avoided, while a belted shirt will keep large breasts from looking bigger.

Flared Jeans
Flared jeans can help to balance out hips and make them look less noticeable. Your tops can be a little shorter than the ones you would pair with leggings, but you will still want to find ones that cover the hips a bit without totally eliminating your waistline. Flared jeans with a flowing shirt can make you look bigger in general. Add a belt to cinch the waist. Elastic belts tend to provide the most comfort.

Maxi and Midi Dresses
Maxi and midi dresses are really on trend right now and a great easy option for the new Mommy. They’re easy to adjust and you don’t have to worry about length issues when you’re reaching up or bending over.

Button-Down Shirts
A button down shirt tied around the waist is a blessing in disguise for new moms. It helps camouflage problem areas, while doubling as an accessory. It can also make for a quick cover up when you’re feeling shy, or when the air conditioning is a little high.

Kimono
If you’re traveling in the heat, you may feel a bit exposed in loose shorts and a tank top. Kimonos or drapey vests are fashionable ways of getting some extra coverage on those scorching hot days.

Sundress
A sundress is a light to pack and easy to throw on. Bring that kimono along for some extra style and a last-minute cover-up. Look for interesting details and eye-catching colors to make the focal points of more revealing clothing.

Accessories
If you’re trying to keep your packing list low, it may be necessary to include a few accessories to keep your pieces looking fresh A watch is a functional accessory that will spare you the trouble of digging through your purse for a cell phone while dealing with your other accessory.

Cross body bags are smart alternatives to handheld purses, and will leave your hands free to tend to the little ones. Their style will also prevent you from setting them down unconsciously and forgetting to pick them up.

Stud earrings can add flash without becoming a plaything for small hands and hats are always great for blocking the sun and covering frizzy locks.

If you’re a new mom with plans to travel, great excitement is in store. Make sure to keep comfy and prepared. Let us know how you gear up for travel.

Makeup Tips To Keep You Selfie Ready

It used to be that you had to look your best because you never knew when a photo op would come up. You might be out at a nightclub, or a party, when suddenly someone with a camera would pop up looking to take your picture, so you had to ensure you were always photo-ready. Now, with the advent of the selfie, things have changed. These days, you never know when you might pop up wanting to take a picture of yourself. Just when you least expect it, there you’ll be with the selfie stick, ready to click away. That’s why you always need to be prepared for the occasion with the proper makeup. Here are some great expert selfie makeup tips.

Woman taking a selfie

Selfie Analysis
According to Courtney Rubin, author of “Makeup for the Selfie Generation,” “Most makeup companies have products that play with light, offering photo finishes or airbrush effects that claim to make wearers camera ready. But a handful of brands are beginning to design and tweak their wares to stand up to the specific challenges of phone photography–among them, that a flash can make foundation look white, or that in daylight selfies, cool colors can look warmer.

In preparation for his book, “#beautiful” makeup artist and lead makeup artist for “Project Runway,” Luis Casco analyzed about 8,000 selfies of 26 women of various ages and ethnicities to find the best makeup application for a good selfie.

Here are some tips from Mr. Casco

  1. Since dry flaky lips commonly plague selfies, Mr. casco suggests using a lip exfoliator before applying lip product.
  2. Mr. Casco also recommends mixing shades of eyeliner to create effects. He notes that a touch of purple can make brown eyes appear clearer and that a hint of gold “makes the eyes twinkle.”
  3. To get the most flattering shot, lift the camera to a 45-degree angle to sharpen the jaw line and make eyes look wider. Casco notes this is particularly helpful in avoiding a raccoon eye effect while wearing dark eye makeup. The trick is to bring the chin down and the camera up.
  4. To avoid pale skin in the daylight, Mr. Casco recommends products that contour the face without looking caked on. He suggests CC creams that blend easily and are not obviously pigmented for a natural healthy radiance.
  5. When taking a selfie at night with a flash, a real life shimmer can translate to oily skin on camera. Casco suggests a translucent powder to make skin feel soft and extra blotting sheets to absorb oil, particularly in the T-zone.

Selfie Ready Foundations
Another way of avoiding the oily sheen associated with selfies is by choosing a mattifying foundation with oil absorbing features.

Stand Out Eyes
When it comes to eyes, the best thing to do is to keep it basic. While bold and theatrical looks can be great, they often don’t photograph well without proper lighting. For photo ready eyes, prime with black mascara, nude shadow, and a bit of a cat eye.

Whiter Teeth
For a quick tooth whitener, munching on some raw veggies can actually help remove stains from teeth. If your looking for a cosmetic solution, stained teeth can be concealed by wearing a bright lip color with blue undertones.

Bold Lips
If your selfies are looking washed out, it may be time to turn up your lipstick a few shades. Look for high-pigment formulas which tend to last longer than other shades and be sure to take your skin tone into account when choosing a color.

The Best Spring Colors For Your Skin Tone

Colors can be very attractive, but as much as you like them in the makeup palette, they may not be the most flattering colors for you. So, in the spirit of saving you some heartache, and sparing you from unnecessary purchases, here’s the skinny on finding the right spring color for your skin tone.

Here’s The Deal
Your skin has undertones. They may not be very apparent, but they come out when you hold another color up to it. That’s why certain colors can make you look gorgeous and others can make you look like you’ve just eaten something disagreeable. To tell which colors best complement your skin tone, you need to first establish what your skin tone is. Take off your makeup and try a drape test to figure it out.

Cool skin tone

Cool
Are you on of the cool kids? If your hair is blonde, ash brown, dark brown, or black, and your skin has pink undertones, you are! Still not sure? Hold up some springy royal blues and bright pinks and basic blacks and whites to your face. Look good? You’re cool!

Light cool
If your hair has a light ashy tone, and your skin is pale with pink undertones, you may be cool light, or light cool. To make sure, hold up some light blues, pinks, and lavenders. If they flatter, you’re light cool.

Warm
If you’ve gone for strawberry blond tints and your skin tans well, it’s all about orange. If orange makes you look radiant, you’re getting warm.

Warm skin

Light Warm
If you’ve got a reddish tint but your skin is fair, or you have darker skin with a peachy glow, then oranges, greens and browns may be overwhelming. Try beachy spring corals, beiges and peaches instead. If they make your eyes pop, you’re a light warm.

Your Best Spring Colors
So now that you know what skin tone you have, here are a few colors you may want to include in your springtime wardrobe.

Orchid
Cool tones, rejoice. Your color for the spring is a radiant orchid. Whether it be maxi dress, flirty sandals or blouses, be sure to include this standout jewel tone in your spring collection.

Lavender

Soft Lavender
Light cool tones will want to find themselves draped in soft lavender this spring. Don a lavender sun dress for some fairy tale spring inspiration and make this pastel your signature color this season.

Cayenne Pink
Warm tones will find the yellow and orange undertones in coral pink great complements to your golden skin tones. A standout color on the spring fashion runways, cayenne pink is going to be huge this year, and it’s going to look terrific on you.

Woman in yellow dress

Lemon Yellow
When life hands you “lemon,” wear it! Nothing says spring quite like a warm, buttery yellow and it’s just the thing for light and warm tones this year. Light warms will do best with lighter desaturated yellow, while true warms can go for the bold canary colors. Get your yellow on in sunnies, skirts/ and platform heels for some fun in the sun this spring.

So which skin tone are you? Whether you’re cooling off or warming up for the spring, we want to hear all about you’re fashion adventures. Please keep us posted.

Lifestyle May Be Your Skin Care Savior

Your skin will not lie. You can say you never ate that sugary food, didn’t go out in the sun without sunscreen, didn’t skimp on sleep; the list goes on, but your skin will give you away every time. You can lie all you want, but that blemish, sunburn, or wrinkle will be there to testify against you.

Face it, there’s only one way to prevent your skin from revealing your sins, and that is to stop sinning. It’s time to accept the fact that the only way to keep your skin quiet is by keeping it healthy. Here are some lifestyle changes to help you choose the right path to healthy skin.

Woman in nature

Protect Your Skin From the Sun
One sure way to prevent skin from premature aging is to protect it from the sun. There is no surer way to prevent age spots and wrinkles or to lower the risk of skin cancer. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15 and apply generously, repeating every two hours, or more, if you’ve been swimming or perspiring.

Try to avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when its rays are strongest and do your best to stay in the shade.

Wear protective clothing. Tightly woven long-sleeved shirts and pants, and wide-brimmed hats provide the best protection from the sun. There are also laundry additives on the market which give clothes an extra layer of UV protection for a number of washings, as well as sun protective clothing with built-in protection from ultraviolet rays.

Stop Smoking
Smoking narrows the blood vessels in the outer layers of the skin, decreasing blood flow and depleting skin of nutrients and oxygen. The result is older looking skin and wrinkles.

Additionally, smoking is a danger to collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin are the fibers that maintain skin’s strength and elasticity.

Woman smoking

Also, the faces that you make from smoking? The pursing of the lips? The squinting? Also likely to cause wrinkles. How can you prevent this? Quit smoking. Ask your doctor for tips and treatment advice.

Be Gentle
Even simply daily cleansing can tax your skin. You can keep the toll to a minimum by limiting bath time. Hot water can remove oil from your skin, and the longer you spend bathing, the greater the loss of moisture. Keep bath time down and try to use warm water, rather than hot.

Swap strong soaps and detergents for mild cleansers to keep skin better hydrated.
Shave carefully, using shaving cream, gel, or lotion prior to shaving. Use a clean sharp razor and shave in the direction in which the hair grows to ensure the smoothest shave with the least skin nicks and cuts.

Pat skin dry after washing to make sure some moisture is left on the skin and follow up with an SPF containing moisturizer that is suited to your skin type.

Eat well
Never underestimate the importance of a good diet for skin health. Eat your veggies, fruits, lean proteins, and whole grains. Research suggests that diets high in unhealthy fats and processed carbohydrates may age skin prematurely, while vitamin C-rich foods may promote younger-looking skin.

Woman meditating outdoors

Control Stress
Stress can increase skin sensitivity and lead to breakouts and other problems. You can manage stress by setting limits and decreasing overwhelming activity in exchange for things you enjoy, or doing low-intensity exercises like yoga and pilates.

Turn Off Your Cell Phone
According to Dr. Francesca J. Fusco, if you keep your head down often while scrolling or texting, you may begin to notice lines in your neck. She suggests hanging photos at eye level in rooms in which you text the most as an enticement to keep your head up during phone use.

Nutrients That You Should Get From Food

Healthy food

Nobody does it quite like Mother Nature, and Mother Nature does not make pills. Although no one can deny the vast contributions of science, try as man may, he has yet to manufacture a product, or pill, capable of healing and promoting growth in the same way Mother Nature can. That is why when it comes to seeking nutrition, there are some things science just can’t give us; and supplements don’t grow on trees. Here are some of the nutrients you should be getting directly from food sources.

Vitamin C
Citrus fruits are the best source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps your body absorb iron. One large orange contains 97.9 mg of the powerful stuff. That exceeds the recommended 90 mg a day for adult males and 75 for adult females. Other high C options include kiwi, tomatoes, and green and red pepper.

Kale

Calcium
Although not the most obvious source, Kale is a great way to get calcium to support nerve function and muscle movement. One serving of the leafy green contains 150 mg of calcium, which is a little over 10% of the recommended daily allowance. But rest assured, you can still get a good amount of calcium from dairy products, such as yogurt.

B Vitamins
Vitamin B 12 is one form of vitamin B usually taken in supplement form. It is important for the formation of red blood cells and neurological function. Eggs are a good source, and, while some shun them for their high levels of cholesterol, nutritional experts concur that this need not be the case. You can get 0.6 micrograms of B12 (about 10% of the RDA) from one large hard-boiled egg, and 3 oz of trout or salmon will just about do you for the daily intake.

B6, crucial for brain development and metabolism during pregnancy can be gotten for tuna, chickpeas, and nuts.

Vitamin A
We need vitamin A to maintain good vision and immune system function. It also plays a part in reproduction and supports the lungs, heart, and kidney.

Sweet potato

Sweet potatoes are particularly high in Vitamin A concentration. Just one baked sweet potato with the skin on has a whopping 28,058 IU of vitamin A per serving. That’s 561% of the recommended value. The National Institute of Health reports that 28-37% of the population take vitamin A supplements.

Vitamin E
Vitamin E is an antioxidant contain in the body which helps the immune system fight off virus and bacteria. Almonds, hazelnuts, and peanuts are all rich in vitamin A, with one ounce of dry roasted almonds containing 34% of the daily recommended value.

Magnesium
Consider trading your magnesium supplements for a handful of cashews. These nuts are rich in the nutrient which is important for maintaining nerve function and healthy blood sugar and blood pressure levels.

Cashews

One ounce of the cashews will provide you with a tasty way to get 74 mg of magnesium, 19% go the recommended daily amount.

Iron
Iron is a very popular supplement, especially for women who are at risk for not having enough. Men 19-50 should aim to get 8mg of iron each day, while women of the same age should get 18mg.
