Quick Fixes For Fashion Slip Ups

Quick Fixes For Fashion Slip UpsQuick Fixes For Fashion Slip Ups

Let’s be honest. You’re a bit of a clothing snob. When you see your friends and coworkers with a dab of foundation on their clothing, or a streak of deodorant, you feel a bit superior. You yourself would never let such a fashion flub go undetected – and then you do. Oh, the horror! Looking in the mirror at lunchtime only to realize you’ve spent the earlier part of the day with a stuck zipper, and you have the rest of the day to walk around helplessly displaying it. What will everyone think? Worry not! Help is here. Although the realization that you have already exposed yourself to some public humiliation may be upsetting, there are ways to do damage control. Here are some of the best tricks for fixing small wardrobe malfunctions that can put a big damper on your day.

Sweat Stains
Ah, the unsightly pit stains. Not only can sweat ruin your daily look, it turns yellow when it dries, and that can mean some long term damage- or so you thought. Soak the item in a solution of warm water and vinegar. Treat stains with a paste made of salt, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide. Let dry, and your white shirt will be reborn and ready to be sweated in again!

Stuck Zippers
No one wants to hear ‘XYZ’ in the middle of the day and not be able to correct the problem. If you find yourself with a zipper that refuses to budge, try using a soap or window cleaner to ease it along. If the teeth of the zipper have become misaligned, try straightening them out with a pair of pliers.

Foundation Stains
The transfer of makeup to clothes is easily done, and now it can be easily fixed. The first rule: don’t wet the stain, or you will have crushed any hope of rescue. Blot, do not rub, the stain with a dry paper. If that fails, try adding baby powder or talcum powder. White-Out can work on small stains. SImply cover the stain with the fluid and scrape it off. The foundation should be gone with the White-Out.

Deodorant Streaks
If its white, its sweat, if its dark, its deodorant. A damp washcloth or rag can remove deodorant stains, as can a wipe with nylons or a beauty sponge.

Painful Sandals
They felt so comfortable in the store! You can stretch out leather sandals by putting on a pair of thick socks and walking around the house with them to keep blisters to a minimum.

A Faulty Hem
Got a droopy hemline? Double stick tape to the rescue. Just tear off a piece and use it to secure the problem until you can get to a needle and thread.

Skip The Dressing Room
If the person in the dressing room before you seems like they’ve laid down tracks for the night, it doesn’t mean you have to forgo testing out the jeans you want to buy. Wrap the waistline around your neck. If it meets comfortably in the back, the jeans will fit your waist.

Fashionable Maternity Swimwear For Summer

vine vera banner presents Fashionable Maternity Swimwear For Summer

Summer is here! Time for the beach, the rays, the parties oh, the very stressful task of picking out the perfect bathing suit. It is not difficult to find an attractive bathing suit, and you certainly don’t have to be concerned with finding one that is suitable for the office, yet, the mere skimpiness of the piece may make it difficult to work with, especially if you’re not exactly in the supermodel category, and this year, there is a rather big body issue to take into account. You’re pregnant. That means that, while most years your biggest concern may have been Brazilian or full cut, this year you have a whole different set of considerations to deal with. But, worry not, when it comes to choosing maternity swimsuits, there are a whole lot of people who have already “been there, done that,” and they have a lot of advice for first-time mothers hitting the water this year. Here are some things you might want to know about fashionable maternity swimwear, so you and baby can hang ten this summer without a care.

First Trimester
The first trimester is usually assumed to be the easiest of the three when it comes to clothing options, and bathing suit choices are no exception. Most women can wear almost any suit in their drawer and be ok with it, and this may well be the case for you.

The thing to take into consideration during your first trimester is that you probably won’t look pregnant, but of course, that doesn’t mean you’re not. You may find your tummy starting to soften and your bust area, hips, and behind starting to expand, so it may be a good idea to try on that swimwear before you accept any beach or pool party invites.

If you do decide to go maternity wear for the first trimester, a tankini is probably the best choice. It will cover a soft middle and the halter top will provide support for the bust area. Plus, the tankini may be a good investment, as it will probably get you through part of the second trimester, as well.

Second Trimester
In your second trimester, you should be basking in your pregnancy. You’ll have achieved that little round baby belly that everyone associates with a time of excitement and expectations, and you start getting little smiles and nods of approval from complete strangers. At this time, many women opt for a bikini. However, if you go this route, it is important to go with a maternity bikini, as maternity swimwear will give you that added support in the bust and under the belly, that’s so crucial at this time.

Another thing to be taken into account when choosing the bikini style is that it hides very little, and this includes stretch marks, as well as the “line Negra,” which is a dark line running from the belly button to the pubic bone that some women get during pregnancy. If either of these is a factor for you, you may want to stick with a tankini option.

When choosing a swimsuit for the second trimester, it is important to keep in mind that this will be the time in which your belly will experience a great deal of growth and it is important that you get a suit that will accommodate this growth. Make sure to read the label on your swimsuit to make sure it is made with a blend of fabric able to stretch as you grow, and/or, it features a set of adjustable ties that can be loosened or tightened accordingly.

Third Trimester
Coming down the home stretch, pregnant women may find themselves on a bit of a roller coaster ride when it comes to what to expect when you’re expecting. You may start this trimester with the ideal size manageable baby bump and end up feeling as big as a house. However, this is no excuse to skip the pool. In fact, swimming is a great way to relieve the discomfort of carrying a bigger belly,

The bikini associated with the third tA bikini is still an option in the third trimester, but the maternity design becomes crucial at this stage. You may want to choose one with a skirted bottom for additional support and coverage. The tankini is also still in the running and may be preferable to the bikini at this point because tankinis are usually fitted bellow the belly, making it more flattering to a pregnant stomach.

As for onesies, these are typically avoided. It just seems impossible to make a maternity swimsuit designed for all body types and the constraints of the onesie seem to make it harder to get the right coverage in the right places in a flattering manner.

Dry Brushing For Overall Wellness

vine vera banner presents Dry Brushing For Overall Wellness

It’s always nice when you buy a new cosmetic product and it comes with a brush. Brushes are great for applying products for a professional finish, but we all know it’s really the product we care about, right? After all, we usually don’t buy that $20 dollar eyeliner because we have to have the brush. But what about if the brush is the product? Dry brushing may be the newest thing in skin exfoliation, detoxification, stress relief, and reduction of cellulite, and just think, you’ll never have to worry about running out of product again. Take a look at some of the benefits of dry brushing, how to do it, and what to look for in a good dry brush. You may never go back to lotion!

Benefits
Good For Your Lymphatic System
The lymphatic system is the part of your body in charge of eliminating cellular waste. When the lymphatic system becomes congested, waste and toxins build up causing inflammation and disease. Dry skin brushing decongests your lymphatic system, helping the skin release harmful toxins.

Exfoliation
Exfoliation without the micro beads? Dry skin brushing helps to remove dead skin cells, opening clogged pores, and improving skin’s appearance for product- free exfoliation.

Promote Blood Circulation
If you’re looking to restore that healthy glow, the dry brushing of skin increases blood circulation to your skin, aiding in the elimination of metabolic waste.

Reduces Cellulite
Summer is beach time, and you don’t need pesky cellulite deposits getting in the way of your perfect bikini body. Dry brushing may soften hard deposits of fat causing them to become more evenly distributed while removing toxins that break down connective tissue. While some believe the cellulite removing effect to be temporary, as a result of the skin’s immediate plumping reaction to the brushing, The Huffington Post reported dry brushing to be, “one of the more successful ways to smooth away less-than -perfect spots on your legs.”

Stress Relief
Dry brush away your stress! Dry brushing has been reported to be meditative, calming the mind and relieving stress. Some even compare it to a whole body massage!

How To Do It
Choose a high-quality brush with natural bristles and a long handle to get those hard to reach spots. Aim to dry brush onto two times a day, gradually working it into your daily routine. Always brush toward your heart, which is most effective for your lymphatic system and circulation. Start at your feet and work your way up, avoiding the delicate skin on your face, or any easily irritated areas. Keep the pressure you apply firm but gentle. Your skin may be pink afterward, but not red or irritated. An average session of dry brushing should last between two and 20 minutes.

Have you tried dry brushing? Let us know what you think? Is this the next big thing in skincare?

Give These Summer Skincare Tips A Try

The day of reckoning has come. The days are getting longer and the shorts are getting shorter. It’s time to unveil all those parts of the body that you’ve been referring to as the “nether regions” this past winter, and that means your skin has to be up to the task. How are you going to get your pasty legs “Daisy Duke” ready in time to hit the beach? No problem! Just dust off that razor, toss out the old sunscreen, and get ready to glow crazy.

Exfoliate
Your body is a skin cell shedding machine. You need to get rid of all those dead cells before they end up collecting on your skin, making it look dull and dry. Lotions is not enough. You need to grab a good body scrub and high tail it to the shower, now! Rub the exfoliator over your body in circular movements and rinse. Do this 2-3 times a week to keep skin soft and smooth.

Shave the Right Way
If you haven’t been exactly diligent about your shaving practices last winter, its time to pay the piper. Find a good razor that won’t cause razor burn and invest in a good women’s shaving lotion with moisturizers. If you find yourself without lotion, hair conditioners will do in a pinch.

Use A Summer Scented Lotion
You don’t want to just look like summer, you want to smell like it too. Get the full effect with a light fast absorbing summery gel or spray. Coconut and mango scents absolutely bespeak of summer. Make sure to apply right after drying off from the shower to seal in moisture.

Safe Summer Glow
It may seem hard to believe that less than 40 years ago, people spent their summers basking in the sun hoping to catch some color. Nowadays, we have to seek our glow from containers. Sunless tanners are a great option for giving your skin a glow this summer. You can also alternate your usual facial moisturizer with a tinted one to build gradual color, giving the effect of an effortlessly maintained tan all summer long.

Feet
Time to switch out those winter boots for your slinky sandals? An at home pedicure may be on the agenda. Use a foot scrub and file to scrub off dry, dead skin a few times a week. Products with ADA acids will add some exfoliating action to your pedi, making your feet sandal ready.

Nail Polish
While you’re working on those feet, you may want to polish those toenails. You can go for something bolder on the toes than the fingernails, and its bound to stay on for a lot longer because we don’t clean our houses with our feet. Just apply a base coat, two coats of color, and a clear top coat for protection. Go barefoot for a few hours to let polish set.

New Sunscreen
The importance of a good sunscreen cannot be overstated in the summer months. Using last year’s unused sunscreen is not going to cut it. Be safe and buy a new bottle and use it. You should apply a shot glass sized amount of sunscreen to your body and a full teaspoon for just the face and neck area. Reapply every 1 to 2 hours. Be sure to look for something with broad spectrum protection and an SPF of at least 30.

Tasty Low Calorie Snacks

If you are a consumer, you may have noticed the recent popularity of prepackaged 100 calorie snacks. They seem like a great idea. One hundred is a perfectly rounded decimal number, and seems relatively inconsequential when compared with the recommended 2000 calorie per day recommended allowance. At that rate, we an eat them every day an still have room for another 1,900 calories! And, on top of that, the snack companies have already done the hard work for us. There’s no measuring required, and no uncertainty about serving size. Plus, the individual packaging helps curb the temptation to eat more than one serving. Genius!

So what’s wrong with this? Well, a few things. Firstly, you’re paying for that individual packaging and really not getting that much food. After all, 100 calories is one hundred calories. Secondly, a good deal of what’s on offer is highly processed and not really that filling. But don’t worry, the party’s not over! Here are a few more satisfying and healthier one hundred calorie options that you may not have considered.

Baked Potato
Microwaves have revolutionized the preparation of the baked potato. For a quick snack, pierce the spud with a fork and nuke on high for five minutes. Eat plain for the full hundred calories or top half with 1 tablespoon of Greek yogurt and one tablespoon of salsa and save the other half for later.

Frozen grapes

Frozen Grapes
Grapes are great frozen or fresh, but the frozen kind do tend to last a bit longer. One cup, or about 28 of these babies, will equal about one hundred calories and are also a great source of antioxidants.

Protein Shake
To make your own, less processed version, add a scoop of vanilla whey protein to a cup of unsweetened almond milk. It makes a delicious post -workout snack that will help muscles recover after exercise.

Dark Chocolate
Three squares of dark chocolate or five chocolate kisses will provide 100 calories of stress-free, endorphin-raising bliss.

Dark chocolate

Healthy Ice Cream Bars
Not only a low-calorie way to nosh, enlightened ice cream bars actually contain five grams of fiber, eight grams of protein, and no artificial sweeteners!

English Muffin with Fruit butter
Go for a whole wheat muffin, as a more nutritious alternative to white. Also, choosing apple or pumpkin butter over jams will save you around 20 calories per serving.

Coconut and Kiwi
Hear this, orange and grapefruit, there’s a new player in town! One large kiwi has all the vitamin C you need to meet the daily recommended allowance. Top with one tablespoon coconut for a refreshing tropical sensation.

Baked apple

Baked Apples
If you want to satisfy a sweet tooth, core a medium sized apple dusted with cinnamon and bake it at 350 for 20 minutes. Leave off the oats and nuts to keep it at the 100-calorie mark.

Kettle Corn
Make a healthy version of this snack by topping 2 cups of freshly popped popcorn with a teaspoon each of stevia and cinnamon. Or, swap the Stevia for one teaspoon of honey mixed with one teaspoon of water. Thin out in a microwave for 20 seconds for best results.

22 Pistachios
Higher in protein and lower in saturated fats than most other nuts, 22 pistachios are a filling and flavorful hundred calorie option. Go for the in – the – shell type, if possible. The extra work will save you 41% of the calories as compared to the unshelled. Well worth the effort.

If you still prefer your pre-packaged options, let us know! Or if you’ve decided to try a few of our suggestions, or have any of your own, we want to hear about your experience!

Be Your Own Valentine’s Day Date: At Home Beauty Pampering

If you’re planning on going out on Valentine’s Day, be prepared to be categorized as spoken for or looking for. Well, what if you’re neither? Just because your single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to subject yourself to a night of bad pick up lines or sympathetic glances. After all, as the song says, “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one your with,” and if that person happens to be yourself, well, all the better.

If you’re destined to be your own date this Valentine’s Day, just look at it this way; you could do worse. Why not take the opportunity to treat yourself to some home beauty pampering?

Girl with roses

Take a Bath
Taking a bath is a key part of home pampering. Let the warm water relax your muscles and engulf your body. You can add bubble bath or even moisturizing essential oils, like lavender or rosewater for some extra hydration and fragrance. Light some candles, pour a cocktail, and cue the music. Beethoven or Beyonce, your choice!

Face Mask
Skin that looks and feels great is an absolute spa day Valentine’s essential. You can go for a store-bought version for a no-fuss skin treatment or make your own with plain yogurt and honey or mashed up strawberries.

Hot Oil
Not only will this make your hair look beautiful, it will nourish and soothe your scalp as well. Again, store bought versions are available, but you can make your own by mixing up a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and some coconut oil with a touch of honey. Heat in the microwave for about 15 seconds and mix. Use a pastry brush to brush the oil into your hair, starting at the roots and ending with the tips. Wrap hair in plastic wrap or cover with a shower cap. Let it sit for several hours before rinsing.

Valentine's day and face scrub

Facial Scrub
Exfoliating scrubs slough off dead skin cells and open clogged pores, leaving skin fresh and radiant. Sugar scrubs can be made by mixing one part oil with two parts brown sugar. Have essential oils or cinnamon on hand to add a tantalizing aroma. If you’re using coconut oil. you may want to heat it in the microwave before adding the sugar. Rub into skin, let it sit for two minutes and wash off.

Teeth Whitening
You can purchase teeth whitener at the local pharmacy, but baking soda and peroxide can also work wonders for keeping those pearly whites sparkling.

Brow Tweezing
The importance of well-shaped brows can never be overstated. Remember to keep it to a minimum by plucking a few hairs around the arch rather than overdoing it and ending up with a semi -permanent look of surprise.

Foot Treatment
Get some nice thick foot cream. Wet a towel and ring out excess water. Pop it in the microwave for about 60 seconds. Slather feet with cream and wrap them in the towel. Leave on for 15 minutes and let the healing begin.

Manicure
It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without some proper red or pink nails. Use a cuticle stick and some cream to smooth and push back cuticles. Shape nails, filing in one direction to avoid breakage. Apply base coat, color, and top coat. Heart shaped decals are optional.

Ready for your date, gorgeous? How about a cup of tea and a nice, warm bed? Let us know how your self-pampering night turns out! We want to hear all about it!
