A Look Ahead To Summer 2018

vine vera banner presents A Look Ahead To Summer 2018It is often said that women have to work twice as hard to earn the respect that men get. Women are constantly having to prove themselves in male dominated industries in order to achieve a modicum of what comes instantly to a man. However, there may be one industry in which women have the home field advantage, and that is the fashion industry. If there’s anything fashion is geared toward, it’s the feminine form, and if boys want to play, they need to know who’s boss. Paris Fashion Week gave the boys a chance to strut their stuff. Let’s see how they stacked up. Here is a look at what was on offer at Paris Fashion Week 2018.

Shorts
What do you think of shorts for men? Tom Ford said no man should ever wear shorts in the city, but it seems there are some designers who disagree. This year tartan print tailored shorts were all the rage, with Dior Homme showing a version off, and Dries Van Noten, offering a two piece shorts and blazer set in a similar print, while Louis Vuitton stuck too long bike shorts with a preppy sweater.

Long Hems
Another big look for Paris Fashion Week was the long hem look. Trousers are getting looser and hems are less structured. Dior Homme showed off jeans that came well past the ankle and Ann Demeulemeester showed off fitted velvet trousers hanging quite a bit over stylish patent leather dress shoes.

Black
Black is never out of fashion in Paris, and, apparently, well suited for any style. Balmain offered a preppy take with a collegiate shirt topped by a nautically themed cardigan, while Ann Demeulemeester went for a gothic drama, with her shirtless model sporting a super side belt, weathered trousers and matching knee length coat. Alexander McQueen took his black in an entirely different direction with a hip length blazer and tailored pants.

Mixed Patterns
From black to mixed patterns, the designers had some pretty bold ideas about improbable pairings. Kenzo paired a super modern technicolored racing top with red, white, gray and blue striped trousers. Haider Ackerman topped plastic black and white polka dot pants with a casual athletic gold striped tank, and perhaps most daring of all was Commes des Garcons who matched his gold iridescent shorts with a bright floral print top and white blazer trimmed in red fur.

Oversized Blazers
Here’s an eighties throwback. Thom Browne did his own take on leaving the house without putting pants on by coordinating his ELE-gray work oversized blazer with striped athletic socks, dress shoes, and not much else. Kenzo also chose to go maximum on top and minimum on the bottom, with a two piece purple oversized blazer and short set. Balenciaga kept it a little more practical by teaming his drapey blazer with classic blue jeans.

Dresses and Tunics
Cutting edge or cutting room floor? Alexander McQueen topped his wool gray suit with a doily skirt and finished the look with open sandals, while Thom Brown put a blue pleated skirt under a short silk jacket and tie combination. Balmain made paired his skin tight punk rock striped jeans and with a long blue tunic to make his ambiguous fashion statement.

So how do you think the boys weighed in this year? Did they get it right? Let us know what you think!

Treat Yourself To A Luxury Purchase

Women on a shopping spree

In Milan, Victoria Beckham spent more than 1.5 million dollars on a shopping spree including a Rolex for husband Dave and 5 sofas.  Teresa Giudice spent over 60,000 on home decor.  Brad Pitt treated his daughter to the entire spring/ summer collection at Paris’ Bonpoint Children’s Boutique. Is this the stuff your dreams are made of?   Join the club.  Whether your celebrating a big promotion or just celebrating yourself, you don’t need an excuse to treat yourself to a luxury purchase.  In fact, here are some reasons why you should!

A New Purse
It’s no secret that cheap bags wear out quickly.  The material peels, the closures break, the studs fall off.  You’re better off buying a really well-made handbag that will last years! And think of the signals you’ll send off when you show up to work with that new bag.  People will say, “Wow, she really has her act together!” or, “Wow, what great taste.”  Besides, bags are only getting more expensive.  If you wait, it will only go up in price!

Designer Clothes
You may think you are paying for the name, but expensive clothing is made better!  The cut is better, the construction is better, the look is better.  You can wear designer clothes for years if you protect them correctly. Everyone deserves clothes that flatter them and make them feel great. You also pay for the workmanship.  Designer shoes are often more comfortable and last longer.

Woman buying jewelry

Jewelry
Are you waiting for our significant other to buy you that perfect piece of jewelry?  Well, stop waiting.  Henri Barguirdjian, leader of Graff diamond US operations says,  “We are seeing more and more women achieving careers on their own and they can afford to buy their own jewelry.  I would say about 25% of our customers are women buying fr themselves.  Jewelry is a great investment.Says Jerry Ehrenwald, president of the International Gamological Institute says, “Unlike a dress or car, jewelry doesn’t wear out….After 20 years, a fancy car needs to be replaced, whereas a diamond improves in value.”

Makeup
Performance is what counts when it comes to makeup.  If you want serums that really work (that is those that contain antioxidants and special properties) you need to shell out.  High-end makeup means more unique products, better pigmentation, better fragrance and usually comes with higher quality applicators. No one wants foundation or bronzer that doesn’t coordinate with your skin, and shouldn’t anything you put on your skin be high quality?

Food
So maybe possessions are not your thing. After all, we get used to possessions and once we do, we just look for a better one.  Thomas Gilovich, a psychology professor at Cornell University claims that experiences can be more rewarding.  “You can really like your material stuff….but…we are the sum total of out experiences.”  And what can be a better experience than a great meal? Try the Frrozen Haute Chocolate ice cream sundae at Serendipity 3 in New York or the Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata at Norma’s with 10 oz of sevruga caviar or Le Burger Extravagant served on a gold dusted roll and held together with a diamond encrusted toothpick. You’ll leave with a full stomach and a story to tell.

So what are you waiting for?  Go out there and spend!  You’ll make yourself happy and contribute to the global economy!

10 Ways to Boost Your Mood

Happy woman

It seems some days exist just to beat you up. You know, the days where nothing goes right and every time you think it can’t get worse, it does. When keeping upbeat seems like an impossible task, turn to one of our 10 ways to boost your mood. These 10 tips are quick ways that you can turn your mood around and increase your feelings of happiness.

Be Grateful
When nothing seems to be going right and your life just seems like a series of disappointments, it’s hard to be positive and thankful for all of the good things that you do have in your life. Susan Biali, M.D. and wellness expert suggests taking time each day to focus on three good things that happened that day or three things that you are thankful for about your life. Focusing on the good helps remind you that there is plenty in your life to be happy about. Try keeping a notebook on your bedside table and jot down three things you’re thankful for right before bed each night.

Woman listening to music

Listen to Happy Music
According to a 2013 study, listening to cheery music really can improve your mood. In this interesting study from the University of Missouri, participants who were told to focus on improving their mood by listening to happy music were able to, while those who were told the same thing but listened to somber music felt no mood effects. Additionally, the study says that it is important to not focus on “am I happy yet,” but to listen to the music as a journey to happiness. So the next time you need a quick pick-me-up, put your earbuds in and play some happy music.

Clear Out The Clutter
You don’t have to spend a whole day organizing and sorting, but getting rid of some of the clutter that surrounds you can have a significant impact on your mood. “Clutter is a reminder of things that should be getting done, but aren’t. It can make you feel like a failure,” explains Elaine Aron, Ph. D. and author of The Highly Sensitive Person. Simply disposing of trash and straightening out some piles can help alleviate a bad mood. Says Aron, “just the illusion of order is enough to ease the mind.”

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy
Some essential oils, such as orange, lemon or lavender can lift feelings of anxiety and depression. To bust a bad mood, keep a candle or oil diffuser in your office for days with endless deadlines. Alternatively, keep a vial of your favorite essential oil blend in your purse for quick pick-me-ups.

Take a Walk
Have you ever heard the expression “you’re only one workout away from a good mood?” Turns out, that’s true. “Exercise sparks the release of feel-good endorphins, but it also satisfies something more profound: the human need to perform and excel. Exercise helps you feel like the captain of your own ship,” says Sonja Lyubomirsky, Ph. D. and author of The How of Happiness. If you can, head outside because being surrounded by nature is also a happiness booster.

Woman laughing

Laugh it Off
A study conducted by Stanford University showed that laughter increases the levels of dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is frequently called “the feel good hormone” because of its ability to lift moods and increase happiness. Additionally, when you laugh you increase oxygen flow throughout your body and you calm down your body’s stress response, which results in a relaxed feeling of positivity.

Vent
Constantly griping and complaining won’t make you feel any better; in fact, it can make you feel worse and aggravate the people around you. However, there is a therapeutic benefit to venting your feelings to a loved one. “In many (though not all) situations it’s better for you to discharge negative emotions than to keep them bottled up inside. Venting helps restore your equilibrium,” says psychologist Leon F. Seltzer, M.D.

Woman eating walnut.

Snack on Walnuts
Nuts, in general, are a great snack, in moderation, but if you need to boost your mood, reach for some walnuts. A study from the University of Pittsburgh revealed that the omega-3 fatty acid content of walnuts made people less prone to depression and easier to get along with. Using 106 healthy adults, researchers looked at the blood levels of omega-3 fats and those with the highest levels performed 49 to 58 percent better than those with lower levels. Walnuts also boost levels of serotonin, a brain chemical that increases feelings of positivity.

Fake it Till You Make it
Those times when you feel the least like smiling are the times when you should be smiling. There are studies that indicate that muscular movements in your face, or adjusting your posture, actually can boost your happiness. Smiling is effective because “if you act like you’re a happier person, you can experience all these positive social consequences. You make more friends. People are nicer to you. And these things can have real consequences,” says Lyubomirsky.

Women shopping

Spend Smart
For some people, retail therapy is a go-to when feelings of anxiety or depression surface. Surprisingly, there are ways that you can spend money and not feel the guilt later. Miriam Tatzel, Ph. D., psychologist from Empire State College surveyed 329 shoppers and found that those who spent money on experiences – a great meal, a wine tasting or a concert – were happier than those who splurged only on consumer goods like shoes or sunglasses. An added bonus is that you often involve family and friends in experiences, and strong social support also goes a long way in lifting your mood.

Not every day of your life is going to be a good one, but when you come up against hardships there are things that you can do to change and elevate your mood. Practice these 10 ways to boost your mood and see which one works best for you, and share these with your friends and family because everybody needs a little lifting up sometimes.

Shopping for a Special Occasion – Vine Vera Reviews

Shopping for a special occassionWhen shopping for a special occasion, you need to pay more attention than usual. If you’re shopping for a dress for your friend’s wedding, you would want to look your beautiful best. And if you’re shopping for a gift for your sister’s birthday, you would want to ensure that you give a meaningful gift. If shopping for special occasions isn’t your specialty, these Vine Vera tips can work wonders in helping you enjoy a stress-free and fulfilling experience while shopping.

Start as soon as possible

Irrespective of your style, you need to start off with shopping as soon as possible. Give yourself enough time to find the right item and make sure that you choose right. This also gives you adequate time to look around for the perfect item before you make a purchase.

Be wary of the size

Different manufacturers have different criteria when it comes to size. Make sure that you choose a size that fits you perfectly. You need to be aware of the required size and read through the manufacturer’s instructions on its size policy. Always ask for a trial before purchasing.

Don’t skip out on the perfect item

Most of us make the mistake of ignoring the perfect item when we see it. If you’re aware that you need a gift for your sister for her upcoming birthday or need a dress for a party that’s just round the corner, it makes sense to pick it up if you see the perfect option lying right in front of you. There’s no guarantee that you’ll find it when you actually need it.

Ask for a second opinion

It always helps to ask for an opinion from a trusted friend when shopping for special occasions. Your friend shall help you choose something that looks good and would be open about telling you when something looks bad on you.

Never shop when you’re in a hurry

Never speed-shop when shopping for special occasions. You need to give yourself enough time to browse through the various options, try different items on and enjoy a stress-free shopping experience.

Don’t expect to complete all your shopping in a single trip

Don’t expect to find the perfect item at the first go. You might just find something that fits the occasion on the first try, but don’t get disheartened if you don’t. This is why starting off early is so important.

Shop in a location that has many options

Try to go to a popular shopping area in your city. Vine Vera recommends you to go to a mall or an avenue that offers multiple options in the same area. This means that you can look around for the perfect item without stressing yourself or wasting precious time traveling from one place to the other.

Ultimately, shopping is what you make of it. Whether you love it or hate it, you can always ensure that it is an enriching and stress-free experience. Just follow these simple tips from Vine Vera and make sure that you always make the right decision when it comes to shopping for a special occasion.

Vine Vera’s Best Shopping Advice – Vine Vera Reviews

ShoppingSome people simply love to shop and some just can’t stand the thought of shopping. Irrespective of which category you belong to, Vine Vera offers you our best shopping advice to help you through your oh-god-i-can’t-bear-it moments as well as your Just-can’t-stop moments. And who doesn’t want to get the best products, enjoy the hottest deals and look updated in today’s fashion-driven world!

Never shop without a list of things you need

Vine Vera recommends you to ensure that you don’t step foot out of your house without having a list of things you need. In most cases, people simply forget all about some of the stuff or end up buying things that they don’t even need. A few precious minutes of preparation can work wonders in helping you buy the right things and ensuring that you don’t end up purchasing something useless.

Have a game plan

When you’re going for some serious shopping, you need a proper game plan. Don’t mix window shopping and actual shopping. Try and separate them. You must know what you need before heading out of the house and stay focused on buying those items. Once you’re done with the essentials, you can spend all your free time window shopping. And if you’re planning to become a part of things like Black Friday deals, you need to ensure that you beat the crowd to high-demand purchases.

Choose a suitable time

Shopping can be tiring, time consuming and stressful. Choose a time that suits you and try to avoid the crowds. A jostling and overcrowded environment can ruin the entire experience and make you irritable. So pick a time that suits your schedule and saves you from huge crowds as well.

Don’t skip out on buying the perfect item

One of the biggest mistakes that consumers make is that they don’t buy the perfect item when they see it in order to avoid wasteful shopping. But, if you come across something that really is perfect, you should go ahead and buy it, provided you actually have some use for it.

Make the most of technology

The modern day world is driven by Smartphones. There really is an app for everything that you can possibly think of. So why not make the most of an app when it comes to shopping? Downloading the right shopping app can help you compare prices, keep in touch with the latest trends and spot special items when they appear. Vine Vera recommends you to try out apps like ShopSavvy, Nifti and Black Friday app.

Be wary of the salesperson

Remember, the salesperson is there to make a sale. Irrespective of how friendly or caring a sales person is, don’t buy a product unless you are sure that you will use it. Salespeople are there to sell you something. It’s their job.

Bring a friend

Shopping along with a friend is always a pleasure. It allows you to cover more ground, enjoy a second opinion and prevent wasteful shopping. Moreover, shopping with a friend is bound to be a lot of fun as well.

Vine Vera’s Shopping Tips – Vine Vera Reviews

Shopping with many shopping bagsA long day of shopping can sometimes seem a bit daunting, and is bound to be energy-draining, but with some good preparation and by following a Vine Vera’s simple tips, you will have nothing but an enjoyable experience.

Think wisely when it comes to choosing the best time to go shopping. Avoid weekends and rush hours, as the shops will be packed with people and it could lead to a stressful experience. The weekdays will be much calmer, and the sales staff will be able to attend to your needs in much more detail.

Before you leave for the shops, some simple preparation will make your day run much more smoothly. If you are shopping for specific items, make a list and try your best to stick to it throughout the day, no matter how much temptation you may encounter! Do some preliminary research on the items you are seeking, and find out which shops you will need to visit. If you aren’t searching for particular items, evaluate your closet before you leave the house, so that you know which types of garments you could do with buying.

If you find that you usually end up overspending on shopping trips, set yourself a budget. Take a certain amount of cash with you and leave your credits cards at home, except for one which you should keep on you in case of an emergency. Remember that a new pair of shoes does not count as an emergency!

It is important to dress appropriately for a shopping trip, in clothes that are not only comfortable to wear over a long period of time, but also easy to remove in a changing room. To begin with, wear comfortable undergarments that are well fitted and work with different outfits. A nude color is usually best, as it won’t end up detracting attention away from any of the clothes you try on. Wear a loose fitted top that can be taken off easily without getting stretched, and choose some pull-on pants or trousers rather than tight jeans or leggings. This will make trying on new clothes much more convenient.

Simple flats, with no laces, buckles or extra straps, are always the best shoe option for a day of shopping. If you are shopping for something that you will be wearing heels with, bring a pair along with you in your handbag, rather than wearing them for the whole day. Your handbag should not be too heavy, and a style that slings across your body is best, as this will leave your hands free for easy shopping.

Keep your accessories to a minimum, as they are easy to forget about when you are leaving a changing room. Keep your hair tied up in a simple style, as it can often get in the way when trying on new clothes. Wear a minimal amount of make up so that you don’t end up leaving make up smudges on new merchandise, but make sure you still feel happy and confident in the way that you look.

Save all of your receipts when shopping, in case you need to return any items. Make sure to never shop on an empty stomach, and take frequent breaks for either food or re-hydration. Keep your energy levels and spirits high, as a good mood is the best tool to have when searching for fabulous new items for your wardrobe or home.

Vine Vera on Autumn Looks for Less – VineVera Reviews

Young woman shopping during autumnShopping for fall doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. There are many ways to be exceptionally frugal without compromising style. Vine Vera details a few of the ways you can save on fashions for fall without breaking the bank.

Shop Sales

Shopping around for fall sales is the best way to get new clothes for less. If you sign up to your favorite stores’ e-mail lists, they will send you weekly (sometimes daily) messages, informing you of their upcoming sales and sales events. Sometimes, if you have a credit card with that particular store, you will be privy to sales that others don’t know about, and aren’t even invited to. Usually, these types of sales happen after hours. Sometimes, these stores will even throw in incentives like extra points on your card to use for rewards at a later time. Talk about a sweet deal!

Shop Thrifty

Thrift stores have a wealth of incredible and rare finds that you can get for bottom dollar. Sometimes, if it’s a small chain thrift store, the owners will even throw in incentives of their own. Thrift store shopping is a hobby for some, where they see how much they can find and buy for such little money. Many of the options available are not owned by anyone else, so it will help you to develop a look all your own and be unique.

Shop for Autumn in Summer

Buying scarves, hats, gloves, and sweaters might not be at the top of your to-do list during the heat of the summer, but summertime can provide you with extreme discounts in terms of buying the things you need for the fall. Many stores begin laying out fall looks at the end of summer, and so shopping for them during this time tends to offer you the best deals, even on brand new merchandise.

Yard Sales

Yard sales tend to offer extreme discount prices on some fantastic finds, if you look around well enough. With a bit of luck, you can find some great autumn looks for less. Many people hosting the yard sales are simply looking to get rid of things they don’t need, and are willing to take next to nothing for clothing. Look in your local newspaper for yard sale ads, as well as Craigslist’s Community section for Yard Sale and Garage Sale listings in your area.

Shop Online

Shopping online on sites such as eBay and Amazon are great ways to get styles you love for far less than department store and boutique prices. Sometimes, you can find brand new items and other times, you will see used but in great condition items. There is so much to choose from on these sites. Don’t get sucked into placing more of a bid than you are realistically willing to spend on used clothing. Just keep things simple and you will have a new autumn look in a pinch without overspending!

It’s so much fun to shop for autumn. What are your favorite frugal shopping tips?
