Summer Sun Dress Styles To Look For

Vine Vera summer dress
For every red-blooded American “hot mess on a hot day, ” the sundress is truly a godsend. While our grandmothers sweated it out in flower-printed shirts, wrap around skirts, and unwieldy loafers, with the ever-present shirt tail flopping our awkwardly somewhere, we pull a ready-to-go outfit effortlessly from our closet, strap on some sandals, and leave the house looking sexy and confident. Since Lily Pulitzer first introduced the sundress to America in 1966 with the motto, “Everything is possible with sunshine and a little pink dress,” it seems almost unthinkable that any woman survived summer without one. Here are some variations on a classic style.

Creating Summer Outfits
Sundresses can be extremely versatile in going from day to night with a few basic changes. Just start out with a cute sundress in a basic color. For a casual look, add some practical sandals and a few choice necklaces. For the night, trade the sandals for some studded heels and throw on a leather jacket and you’re set.

For a day out with friends, booties can liven up a casual outfit, and a pair of heels and light sequined jacket can be added for date night.

Florals, Laces, And Linens
The floral sundress is an absolute wardrobe staple and great for daytime wear. You can go light by pairing it with sandals or make it boho chic with a pair of suede or cowboy boots.

Lace dresses are perfect for special occasions and parties. If you’re looking for something to wear to a wedding or cocktail party, lace embellishments are a great summer look.

Loose comfortable linen dresses are not just for the beach. Simple lines and closures are key to these elegant and casual summer time options.

Maxi Dresses
Long gowns are no longer just for evening wear. Maxi summer dresses can be great on the beach, or even for a day of shopping. They flatter every height and body shape, so you can’t go wrong.

Maxi dresses come in a series of styles. There are strapless, v-neck, backless, and halter maxis, maxis with side slits, maxis with graphic prints, bold prints, ruffles, layers and lace. In considering what maxi is right for you, consider your personal style, the part of your figure you want to call attention to ( or away from) and the occasion you are looking to wear it to. You may want to channel your modern boho princess, or go for a long sexy halter.

Vine Vera Vintage summer dress

Vintage Summer Dresses
Vintage summer dresses tend to be more fitted and may have less of the “throw on” appeal than most sun dresses, but are well worth the sacrifice considering the fashionability. Channel your inner Elizabeth Taylor with cinched waists, padded tops and flared skirts. Off shoulder looks are a common feature of the vintage summer dress, as are bright prints and colors. Halter looks also often fall into the vintage category.

Clubwear Summer Dress
Just because it’s called a “sundress” doesn’t mean you can’t wear it at night. Try a sequined club dress with a halter top or super sexy strapless number tight-fitting number with a sweetheart bodice. Looking for something more free-flowing? Try a loose sequined dress in silver with some drapy necklaces or go for a sexy cut out with geometric print.

Stripes, Stripes, and More Stripes

Woman in stripes, walking

The zebra is probably one of the more trendsetting of animals. Stripes have been making their way to the fashion runway ever since Coco Chanel introduced the Breton striped shirt, becoming a fashion statement for young sophisticates, and still worn today by such fashion icons from Kate Moss to Kate Middleton. Although the stripes of the zebra serve as a means of camouflaging the animal, they also serve as a means of identity. Apparently, zebras recognize one another by the slightly distinct striping pattern on their hide. If stripes are a means of self-expression in the animal kingdom, then there is no reason why they should not do the same for the fashion world. Here are some ways of earning your stripes this summer.

Stripes Trending 2017
In addition to lining (literally) spring runways this year, stripes have also taken their place as major contenders on the red carpet. Both Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery and Blackish’s Yara Shahadi cemented the rainbow striped dress as fashionable evening wear for the Hollywood crowd this year for a new take on A-list evening wear.

The runway has also seen no shortage of stripes this year. Altuzarra did a nautical inspired off the shoulder dress in primary red and blue capable of doubling as for day or night duties, depending on the accessories. Proenza Shouler showed its stripes in combination with a color block scheme on a knit dress. Miu Miu went mod with a striped shirt dress, while Fendi went daring with their striped crop top, seen modeled by Gwyneth Paltrow on the February edition of In Style Magazine. Menswear pieces are all the rage with pinstriped button down borrowed from your boyfriend looks. Look to Caroline Herrera for an elegant vertical white and black striped dress and check out Tommy Hilfiger striped maxi for a cool summer look.

Wearing Stripes
While stripes may be a perfect for the runway, they can be a difficult look to pull off for the everyday. Here are some tips for wearing stripes this season:

  • Horizontal Stripes Don’t Increase Girth
Studies show this is a myth, so ignore it.
  • Bold Stripes Equal Bold Looks
If you don’t want to make big waves with your stripes, you may want to start with a more toned downed pinstripe before working your way to the wider look.
  • Go Neutral With Stripes
Pair your striped skirt or jeans with a black colored top or vice versa.
  • Don’t Be Afraid to Get Creative
Black and white is classic but don’t be afraid to think out of the box. Go for rainbow stripes if your daring, or greys with reds for a more toned down contrast.
  • Mix Prints
Stripes can look really great with florals or plaid. Think of them as a neutral piece and pair prints accordingly.

Denim Does Business Casual

Woman at business

In 1969, a writer for American Fabrics wrote, “Denim is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, yet it remains eternally young.” In the 1950’s, denim it became the outfit of the “juvenile delinquent” or “motorcycle boy” in films and television, banned by school administrators who feared its very presence on the teenage body would lead to rebellion against authority. So, how is it, you may ask, that this Satanic fabric ever became anywhere near what might be considered respectable wear? Well, according to another writer for American Fabrics, “What has happened to denim is really a capsule of what happened to America, it has climbed the ladder of taste.” Has it also climbed the ladder of success?

Tips On Denim In Business Casual

  • Balance
It’s important that you keep a line between what constitutes business casual and normal casual. Keep your denim classy by pairing it with pieces that are a little more corporate. Instead of a sweater with jeans, try a classy blazer and dress shoes. This will tell your fellow employees that you know where to draw the line.
  • Silhouettes
Since denim tends to be a more relaxed fabric, the cut is very important. A little styling can go a long way. Look for denim pieces that make a professional looking silhouette, like skirts, blazers, and trouser jeans. This will give a more pulled together appearance than baggy, shapeless comfort pieces.
  • Accessorize
Accessories always class up an outfit. If you want to polish up your weekend look, try adding a belt, designer clutch, or some dressy shoes. This way you can add a weekday flair to your Saturday pieces.
  • Dark Wash Denim
Darker denim is a much better workplace wash than faded and distressed. Dark wash denim can be a great comfortable substitute for trousers, provided they don’t feature a lot of contrast stitching to make them look more casual. If your denim must be of a lighter wash, try to balance by dressing up the other elements of your wardrobe.

  • Dark Wash Denim Blazer
Blazers have a way of always looking professional, even in denim. You’ll create a professional silhouette, and the dark wash is perfect for the business setting. Pair it with a white knit top and some skinny pants in a contrasting color. Throw on a statement necklace and some brightly colored flats and you’re set.
  • Dark Wash Pencil Skirt
If you’re lucky enough to find a dark wash pencil skirt that hugs your figure, grab it. Dark wash pencil skirts are ideal for work or play. For work, try combining a quality sweater or top and add a scarf and necklace with some out of the box flats.
  • Dark Wash Jeans
You can never go wrong with a good pair of dark wash jeans. Keep the stitching low key for the office. Top with a blazer layered over a scoop neck top. Accessorize with a belt and necklace. You’re good to go!

Chic, Casual Wardrobe Basics

Have you heard? Barbie’s gone casual chic. It should be no surprise. After all, if anyone has more clothes than all the Kardashians put together, it’s Barbie. Barbie’s casual chic 2-pack is standard Barbie fare. She’s got some black and pink leggings printed with electric guitars and a Barbie Rockers jersey, as well as a tie dyed denim shorts set. The only anomaly? The pack comes with a pair of patent leather lace up Lady Gaga boots with three centimeter heels. (scaled down, of course) Who is this woman’s stylist? While you can spend all day debating the propriety of Barbie dolls in S and M heels, it may be more productive for you to cultivate your own casual chic collection. Let’s talk about the comfortable basics no woman’s wardrobe should be without.

The White Cotton T
Crew neck or V neck, you need a white T shirt. Whether you’re layering or making a statement look, the white T shirt is an absolute casual essential.

Woman in sweater
Crewneck Sweater
If you want to stay comfortable cozy in the cooler months, a lightweight knit is the way to go. Wear it over a collared blouse for a preppy look or as a sexy topper for jeans or a pencil skirt.

Skinny Jeans
Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Adam Levine, the importance of a great fitting pair of skinny jeans can never be overestimated. High rise styles help to lengthen and slim legs in classic blue or black.

Black Pumps
As any dyed in the wool fashionista will tell you, if there is anything no wardrobe should be without, it’s a pair of classic black pumps. They go with everything from jeans to business suits to cocktail dresses and can be suited to any occasion.

Bright Colored Cross Body Bag
Want to add some pep to your look? Grab a colorful cross-body. Smaller than a tote and larger than a clutch, these bags are just the right size to do some serious shopping while still being able to fit down the aisle.

White Button Down
You’ve got your crew neck sweater, now you’ve got the collared shirt to put under it. Do a crisp classic look in all white or put it under a blazer for some professional polish.

Woman in pencil skirt
Pencil Skirt
Slenderizing and slinky, the pencil skirt can be great for the office or for the weekends. Paired with a silk camp or t-shirt and go retro, glam or preppy.

Cropped Moto Jacket
Add a bit of tough to your sexy. The moto jacket is an ageless fashion piece that can be worn with jeans or over a silky slip dress, it’s worth the splurge.

Menswear Look Watch
Women know the sexy look and feel of wearing men’s clothing, why not a men’s watch. It can be a great fashion piece for basics and can also be layered with a chain bracelet and bangle.

Wrap Dress
No need to coordinate an outfit. If you’ve got a wrap dress, it’s all grab, wrap and go. Plus, it makes for a flattering silhouette,

Easy Date Night Outfits

When done well, date night can be quite the exciting endeavor. But there’s one particular moment many of us know all too well that’s inevitably a part of every date night, and inevitably the part that’s the most difficult and strenuous for many of us. That moment is when you find yourself standing in front of the closet wondering what on earth you’re going to wear.

For some, that moment might come well in advance, as you leisurely browse your options with plenty of time to spare, and for others, it will be a rushed last-minute affair. But invariably, even if you don’t have the looming threat of being late nipping at your heels, it’s going to be a tough choice, which is why Vine Vera is here with a list of cute, fun, pretty, yet conveniently quick-and-easy date night outfit ideas.

Maxi dress and bracelet.

Maxi Dress and Statement Bracelet
An attractive, well-fitting maxi dress is always an excellent choice for when you need convenience and gorgeousness in the same package. No need to coordinate when your outfit is one-piece; just slip it on and be done. Maxi dresses come in incredible amounts of variety, colors, and patterns, so you’re not likely to run out of options any time soon. To keep your jewelry hassle-free and equally gorgeous, go with a statement piece; we recommend a chunky or art deco inspired statement bracelet, but you can also go for a statement necklace or even a statement ring; the whole point of statement pieces is that they can be worn on their own because they’re noticeable and catch the eye, so you won’t spend ages coordinating your jewelry.

Sweater and skirt.

Sweater and Skirt
There are so many different ways to pull off a sweater and skirt combo, we wrote a whole separate article about it. This one does require a bit of coordination, but it’s really as simple as matching a single sweater with a single skirt. There are a few ways to go about this, but for the easiest option that’s still stunning as ever, get the skirt and sweater in matching colors and throw a contrasting color belt around your waist. Complete the look with a crossbody bag in the same color of the belt, and you’re good to go.

Jeans and t-shirt.

Jeans and T-Shirt…Taken to the Next Level
At first thought, the simple jeans and shirt combo probably sounds more fitting for a casual walk around the neighborhood or a grocery run than a date night. However, this combo can be taken to the next level and be made into the perfect date night ensemble. Just replace the simple tee with a fun, flirty, casual but refined flowy blouse, and pair with some sleek, stylish skinny jeans and leather ballerina flats or platform heels.

Floral dress

Floral Dress
You can get a floral-print dress to match just about any color preference, personality, or personal sense of style these days. Pick one in a flattering cut, and keep the jewelry minimalistic here; some hoops or oval earrings and a few bangles on one arm should do the trick.

Runway Trend in Real Life: Lace Up Flats – Vine Vera Reviews

Lace Up Flats

Fashion designers and consumers alike anxiously await fashion shows with each coming season’s approach, just begging for the next look at the next big thing in clothing. Style has inspired many real life trends in which people have taken and made their own, adding their own ideas and flair. Vine Vera Skincare brings you one of the real life trends found on runways this season – lace up flats. With the many different styles and colors abounding, and with spring finally here, now is the time to update your closet with some of the newest must have shoes for spring.

Ballerina Lace Up Flats
Ballerina lace up flats have become increasingly popular over the past decade, and seem to be here to stay – at least for a while. They look feminine, elegant, and dramatic paired with a frilly skirt, dress, or even a pair of sailor shorts. The gorgeous chiffon-like ribbons used to lace the shoes up the leg look absolutely fantastic and classy. Whatever you choose to pair them with, it’s best to stick with basic colors in ballet flats, such as light pink, tan, or black, which not only looks the most natural – but you can wear them with more outfits and get more use out of them as well.

Sandal Lace Up Flats
Sandal lace up flats are all the rage right now. Sandals have always been a popular spring and summer staple, but these take the typical pretty sandals of the warmer months, and turn them into something sexy and spectacular. Generally, there is a shoelace like material in which to tie sandal lace up flats with – but you may find a ribbon of some sort with this style. With so many colors and styles to choose from, these sandals can tie an outfit together (literally) even without accessories. They look great with anything, from shorts, dresses, capris, rompers, or skirts.

Ankle Tie Flats
This style can be quite similar to the sandal lace up flat look – but the ankle tie flats are different in that they are usually based off of other styles such as oxfords, and sometimes sandals, but don’t tie up past the ankle. The ankle tie flats seem to pair very well with pants of any style due to the low tying look, and there are ample styles to choose from. VineVera loves the look of ankle tie flats in stiletto form, and we think these types of flats are one of our favorites for their versatility.

Moccasin Lace Up Flats
Moccasin lace up flats take these traditional Native American styled shoes to a whole new level. You can find them in traditional tan and brown colors with suede or leather ties, or even in more fashionable color schemes with varying lace up materials. This is one of the trendiest looks for the spring and summer 2015 season. Find them with or without tassles, and with or without beads. This style is truly based on personal preference.

These are just a few of the lace up flat styles we at Vine Vera are in love with, and we hope to have shed some light on this hot off the runway trend so that you can implement the style into your wardrobe update for spring.
