While the fall 2015 trends may not seem entirely new, sometimes it’s more fun to use beauty staples or reimagine classic colors. Rediscover your favorite black liner or experiment with a new way to wear your signature blush color by using the fall 2015 runways as inspiration.
Red lips doesn’t exactly seem like a trend for autumn 2015, but bear with us. There are two major color variations of red that are hot right now: a tomato lip and a deep brick red. A tomato red lipstick generally has hints of orange in it, and this look was seen on the Celine runway. This vivid and bright lip works best on fair-skinned people because it really pops against porcelain skin, but don’t let a deeper complexion stop you from trying out this fun color. The brick red that’s making a comeback in autumn 2015 is a 90s style deep red. Runways like 3.1 Phillip Lim sported the oxblood side of brick red while Carolina Herrera and Dolce and Gabbana incorporated a brick/berry lip into the runway look. The brick red lip was accompanied by barely there eye makeup and cheeks with a natural-looking flush.
While we’re talking about a natural-looking flush, flushed cheeks are definitely having a moment right now. While rosy pinks made several appearances with this look, there isn’t one specific shade to this trend. When recreating this look, keep in mind that the end goal is to look like you just finished a morning on the slopes or just returned home from a brisk autumn evening walk. Pro tip: avoid putting blush directly on the apples of the cheek. This look is all about mimicking your natural flush. To find the best spot to begin application, place two fingers right next to your nose. Start your blush where the second finger stops.
Black Kohl Eyeliner
Yet another beauty staple that doesn’t seem revolutionary, black kohl eyeliner dominated the runways for the fall season. Oscar de la Renta used a straight swipe of black kohl liner to elongate the eyes while providing some variety from the classic cat eye. Other designers, like Diane von Furstenberg, used black and brown kohl eyeliner to make a seriously sexy and simple smokey eye. While the highly intricate graphic eyeliner looks may not be suitable for everyday makeup, there were several shows that made black kohl eyeliner the focal point of the look in interesting shapes and lines.
Bronze lids were a popular site on the runways for fall 2015 and this look pairs beautifully with the red lip trend mentioned above. The shadows featured on the runway this fall were highly metallic and ran the gamut from true bronze to more coppery-tinged shades of bronze. You could try wearing a bronze lid and using some black kohl liner to smudge and smoke out your bottom lash line for a sultry evening look.
When recreating these looks, remember that it’s often best to pick one or two focal points of the face and to really let those stand out by keeping the rest of the face a bit more muted and simple.
